She's been driving the whole time

In this email:

About a month ago, I set up some goals.  Broke them down into microgoals, mapped it all out and felt that spark - the “this is finally happening” energy. Then something deep inside me, quietly said, “I can’t do this, that’s not going to work”.  I barely noticed it. I kept going.

In the coming weeks I was not close to getting the microgoals done. I noticed I was letting “busyiness” get in the way.  I sat down to plot out a new plan.  “I don’t think I am ready for this” a little louder this time.

I paused and recognized her. The timid little girl who does not want to make mistakes.

Perhaps, maybe you have experienced this?  There is something you want to try to uplevel but you have this lingering doubt underneath.

This is more common than people care to talk about.  We all carry these parts: the one who berates you because she thinks pressure is safe.  The angry one who’s actually just exhausted from not being heard, the sad one who carries what you won’t look at.

When we ignore these parts of us, they don’t go away - they drive.  They drive the show  from the back seat.  That’s why self sabotage, procrastination, freeze happens before the thing that you actually want.  It’s not a motivation problem.  It’s a fragmentation problem.

This is the work that has been coming up for me and my clients.  This is the inner work that has to happen in order to reach your goals.

This is powerful work. However it is not a one and done.  This is compassion work that takes time and is an ongoing process.  I still hear that little girl but our relationship is different.  I tend to her when she comes around instead of stuffing her down and things feel lighter.

If this resonates with you and felt something shift - or something resist - that’s worth paying attention to.  I am here to hold space for those parts of you to feel seen, heard and loved.  Reach out.
