The Journey That Lead Me Here - Part 2

If you haven’t read Part 1 of my story, you can catch up on my blog. But if you’re ready for the next chapter, here’s how my journey unfolded.

My fascination with the mind-body connection grew with every psychology book I read. But it was my mom’s cervical surgery—and my role as her interpreter and caretaker—that truly opened my eyes. I wondered: How do we prevent surgeries like this in the first place?

That question led me to massage therapy, where I saw how deeply our thoughts and emotions shape physical health.  After 7 years of building a successful practice, I started asking myself deeper questions about the kind of experiences I wanted in my life.  What came up was - traveling.

At 27, I took my "first retirement," traveling the world and living off the grid. I fell in love with the power of herbs, food, and lifestyle in shaping wellness.

As life often does, it brought me full circle—back to my roots. While living in a small Alaskan town, I unexpectedly became an interpreter for a deaf child. I saw the firsthand effects of language deprivation and a broken system.  I felt the weight of responsibility, knowing I had never interpreted professionally before. That’s when I decided to enroll in Compass, the interpreting program for Codas.

I saw the injustices caused by language deprivation. It was heavy. Then, life hit hard—my husband left, COVID struck, and everything felt uncertain. But in the midst of it all, I turned inward.

I leaned into my self-care routines. I got to know myself at a deeper level, realizing that my daily habits weren’t just rituals—they were my lifeline. And they got me through.

Self-care isn’t just about indulgence; it’s about resilience. It’s about knowing what nourishes your mind, body, and soul—especially when life throws you into the deep end.

So, I’d love to hear from you: What routines keep you grounded when life gets tough?  Send me a message, I’d love to start a conversation.

Stay tuned for Part 3!!!!

Light and Love,

Catherine
